FAQs
What is incontinence?
Urinary incontinence is defined as the involuntary leakage of urine. There are three different types of urinary incontinence:
- Stress incontinence is when there is exerted pressure on the bladder causing leakage. This can be caused bu coughing, laughing, sneezing or exercising.
- Urge incontinence is the sudden, intense urge to urinate frequently.
- Mixed incontinence is a combination of both stress abs urge incontinence.
What causes urinary incontinence?
This may be due to weakend pelvic floor muscles which support the organs of the pelvic floor like the bladder. Menopause, vaginal and cesarean births, and obesity can weaken the pelvic floor muscles. Strong pelvic floor muscles give you control of your bladder and bowel. Weakened pelvic floor muscles mean your internal organs are not fully supported and you may have difficulty controlling the release of urine.
How can I treat my incontinence?
You may have already been told to do kegel exercises daily which probably didnt work because you can not build enough muscle this way to see improvement or maybe offered medications to decrease the amount of urine you make but usualy has side effects people dont want. Perhaps pelvic floor therapy which can help but may take greater than 12 weeks to see improvement. Surgery may have also been offered but the long term improvements are not ideal.
How is Emsella different?
Emsella has taken a treatment that has been around for a while but now with better technology and stronger magnets can produce better results. It usies a high frequency electromagnet to not only strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor but makes the muscles bigger for better control. This technology also makes the nerves inand around the bladder less reactive to decrease that sensation to go.
How long is the Emsella treatment?
Each treatment takes around 30 minutes. You come in 2 times per week for about 3 weeks and then return quarterly for maintenance if indicated.
What does an Emsella treatment feel like?
You will feel the muscles of the pelvic floor contracting while sitting on the Emsella chair. There is no down time and you can go back to what you were doing immediately after.
How fast will I see results?
You may see results after a single session with results typically continuing to improve over the 3 week period.
